Pediatric Speech and Language Therapy in Fairfield County, CT
Whether your toddler isn't talking yet, your preschooler is hard to understand, or your school-age child is struggling to follow directions or keep up with reading, we can tell you what's going on and what to do about it. Our ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists work with children from infancy through high school, in person at our Westport office or by telehealth. In-network with Anthem, Cigna and Aetna.
Who we see
Toddlers and preschoolers
Late talkers who aren't using words or combining them when expected. Children who are difficult for anyone outside the family to understand. Kids who don't seem to follow what's said to them, or who get frustrated trying to communicate. Early intervention works, and the earlier the better.
School-age children and teens
Children who still mispronounce sounds like R, S, L or TH. Kids who struggle to understand directions, tell a story in order, or find the right word. Students whose reading, spelling or writing lags behind, which is often a language issue underneath. Children who didn't qualify for school services but still need help, and children who did but need more than the school can offer.

Expressive language: vocabulary, grammar, sentence building and storytelling
Language-based learning difficulties, including word retrieval and auditory processing
Literacy: phonological awareness, reading comprehension and written language
Social communication and pragmatic language, and feeding or tongue-thrust concerns in infants and toddlers (see our feeding and swallowing therapy page)
What to expect
We start by listening to what you've noticed and reading anything you already have: a pediatrician's note, a preschool screening, a school evaluation or IEP. If your child was evaluated in the last six months, we can often build on it instead of repeating testing. Otherwise we do a comprehensive evaluation with standardized measures and a written report you can share with school and your pediatrician. Then we set goals together and start therapy, usually once or twice a week. Sessions are play-based for young children and structured around real school demands for older ones, and you'll leave each session knowing what to practice at home.
Insurance, referrals and fees
We are in-network with Anthem, Cigna and Aetna. For other plans, we provide a coded receipt (superbill) after each visit for out-of-network reimbursement. Some plans ask for a pediatrician's referral for speech therapy; ask us when you call and we'll tell you what your plan needs.
Questions parents ask us

Not necessarily, but you shouldn't wait and see either. Most two-year-olds have around 50 words and are starting to combine them. If yours isn't, an evaluation tells you whether this is a late bloomer or a delay that needs support, and either way you'll get strategies for home.

Yes. School eligibility is based on educational impact, which is a higher bar than "this child would benefit from therapy." Many of the children we see fall into exactly that gap.

We're a private practice, so we're separate from school services, but we're glad to coordinate with your child's school SLP and teachers, read the IEP, and share our evaluation with permission.

It depends on the concern, your child's age and how consistently we meet. Articulation of a single sound might take a few months; broader language work takes longer. We'll give you an honest estimate after the evaluation and revisit it as we go.

For most school-age children, yes, and many families alternate in-person and video sessions. For toddlers and for feeding concerns we usually recommend in person, and we'll tell you which fits your child.

Yes. For young children we often want you in the room; for older kids we'll bring you in at the end to go over what to practice.
